Beyond the Classroom- Ways for Educators to Find Teaching Opportunities and Market Their Skills

Students will actively participate in an online learning community to further develop their understanding of how to find teaching opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. This course will walk students through the process of researching and finding work opportunities that will allow them to use their teaching skills and experience. Students will explore a variety of work opportunities such as tutor, life coach, educational consultant, and curriculum writer as well as other non-traditional paths. By the end of the course, students will see that there is a world of possibilities and opportunities for them to use their talents and skills to help others.
Topics of study will include preparing your resume and curriculum vitae, self-assessing your skills and talents, researching a wide range of job opportunities outside of the traditional classroom, and how to build and develop the skills you need to be successful in new work settings. Class activities will include forum discussions and activities, reflection work, research work, developing professional materials, collaborating with others, and preparing a portfolio of resources and tools to support their professional development. This course is appropriate for educators in all content areas.
