Envision the ideal classroom: not only are you able to extend the learning for early finishers, but also simultaneously support students requiring extra reinforcement or enrichment, all while giving children choice, encouraging autonomy and inspiring curiosity! Learn about Choice Boards and how they can revolutionize your teaching, regardless of grade, subject, or discipline! Choice boards provide students with the opportunity to make their own decisions regarding how they will learn/demonstrate knowledge, which increases intrinsic motivation and meaningful learning. The use of choice boards provide students with multiple ways to engage with target standards. It is an inclusive strategy that supports students requiring UDL, ENL, Speech, Guidance, OT/PT support, and is useful to teachers across all disciplines from grades pre-K through 12. In this class, participants will learn about various instructional technology tools and resources which support the Next Generation Learning Standards and International Society of Technology Standards (ISTE). Through independent work, teachers will examine how choice boards can be utilized across all subject areas and grade levels to differentiate instruction so as to enrich, extend, and support learning with fun, engaging opportunities. Through various readings, discussions and reflections, teachers will learn about what choice boards are, and how to create and utilize them so as to accommodate all learning styles/needs. Upon completion of the course, participants will have created three choice boards incorporating the skills, strategies, and practices to effectively support all types of learners appropriate for their classroom environment/specialty. This course is appropriate for all teachers who work with students in grades Pre-K through 12th.
