A learning environment is not just any school classroom, it is a safe space where students are immersed in learning, inspired, and engaged by their surroundings, a place where they feel comfortable to take risks and challenge themselves daily. This is a place where students can be themselves, their identity is respected and celebrated based on trust and respect. The classroom needs to be a positive environment that fosters Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), wellness and teaches students manage their emotions, form important relationships, collaborate, and have empathy for others for successful learning to occur. This course will inspire teachers to integrate SEL in a culturally responsive manner that will embrace all the asset-based learners in their diverse classroom community. The Two Key Elements; Creating Positive School Learning Environments Providing Social Emotional Competency Instruction and Five SEL Competencies; Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills and Responsible Decision Making will be explored to foster a positive classroom environment for students to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. Contemporary resources and perspectives will help provide an inclusive differentiated learning environment cultivating a culture of respect and rapport for all students to learn.
