This course is designed to teach course participants how to add phenomena-based learning activities and concepts into their classrooms and programs in unique and powerful ways. Phenomena-based learning, at its foundation, is designed to give students the opportunity to investigate, question, explore, research, and learn about complex problems related to observable phenomenon in the world around them. Using phenomena as anchors for lessons and learning activities, course participants will design engaging and meaningful learning experiences that teach students how to use phenomena around them as the foundation for real-world scientific investigations. Throughout this course, participants will actively seek ways to incorporate learning activities designed to teach students about phenomena-based learning concepts, related standards, topics, and more into other subject areas to show how interconnected various subjects and disciplines truly are. At the end of this course, participants will have a portfolio of course work that they can share in their school communities to inspire and teach others how to build their own phenomena-based learning program.
