Author studies are proven to be an effective means through which students can learn about various literary elements to tie to the Common Core and Next Generation State Standards. Students become familiar with writing styles, characters, and author’s themes as well as gain the ability to make personal connections to the author, text, and characters. Participants will analyze author studies and determine the importance of using them as teaching tools in the classroom. Participants will also create an author study that will help students to develop reading skills, build critical thinking skills, improve writing skills, and create a deeper attachment to books.
